Periodontics, what is it?
Periodontics is the dental specialty that treats diseases related to the gums. Keep in mind that one of the main reasons for the appearance of these diseases is poor dental hygiene, so it is necessary to maintain cleaning habits constantly, although there are also other related factors such as smoking, diabetes, some medicines and even genetic predisposition.
Periodontics: main causes
The accumulation of tartar is one of the most common causes in the appearance of this type of diseases, this is because it favors the formation of bacterial plaques that accumulate below the gums. The gums become inflamed due to the infection caused producing a disease known as gingivitis.
Care must be taken with this type of disease, since if it is not treated in time and in an appropriate manner, it can worsen to become periodontitis, one of the most serious diseases of the periodontium.
How to identify a gingivitis?
Gingivitis is an infection of the gums in an initial state. Your symptoms may not be evident, because it does not hurt or cause discomfort (in some cases). However, as this disease begins to progress, swelling or redness may occur in the gums, in the same way you may feel some sensitivity and frequent bleeding.
In any case it is necessary to bear in mind that the most serious signs are identified when the tooth begins to move and the gum is retracted. In this case, it is considered a periodontitis.

Periodontic treatments
Keep in mind that the type of treatment that must be carried out depends on the state in which the disease is in the gums (or periodontal disease). What should be done in the first instance is to perform a deep cleaning of the teeth and gum, performing the respective healing of the affected area and supplemented with a pharmacological treatment to be able to eliminate the infection found in the area.
If by this procedure is not enough to eliminate the problem, then we proceed to perform a surgery in which a much more thorough cleaning of the gums is performed and subsequently evaluate the state of the bone and the base of the affected tooth.
Depending on the state of the bone in the affected area, one could think of the possibility of a bone or mesh graft that allows the tissue to regenerate and thus prevent tooth loss.
