The oral cavity is a site where tissues can be exposed to different diseases. Some of these diseases can present unique clinical features. These features help the clinician to determine diagnoses and treatment with reliance.
A patient may require an oral exam and pathology evaluation under the following conditions:
- When a lesion is present in the tongue, gums, roof of the mouth, floor of the mouth, lips, neck, and face.
- If there are changes in color: sometimes lesions may have different colors red, white, yellow, pigmented.
- If there are changes in size: some lesions may change with time. Increase, decrease in size or simply it may remain stable.
- If there are symptoms: lesions may be painful.
